Message from the President.
We dedicate ourselves to the production of sea salt, known as shima masu in our local dialect, for the purpose of passing down the island's salt-making tradition and the blessings of the beautiful Okinawan sea to future generations.
At Gala Aoiumi, visitors can have the opportunity to witness the Okinawan salt-making process where seawater is boiled in a traditional flat kettle over a wood fire for about 7-8 hours until the water evaporates completely.
The whole process is carefully conducted by our experienced artisans, who control the strength of the fire and continuously stir the seawater in a hot, harsh environment.
We also offer a variety of hands-on programs and activities, including salt-making, glassware, pottery, “stained glass” art, water-based activities and a coral growing experience.
Restaurants are located on the premises and you can enjoy our specialty Okinawa soba with sea salt-flavored broth, American-style pizza and more.
Salt-flavored ice cream and shio senbei (rice crackers sprinkled with salt) are also must-tries. In addition, Gala Aoiumi's original products are for sale at the souvenir shop.
Gala Aoiumi is the ideal one-stop attraction for everything that Okinawa has to offer. We are looking forward to your visit to Gala Aoiumi.
